🔺Did you receive a letter from Statistics Canada 🇨 🔺Did you receive a letter from Statistics Canada 🇨🇦 recently and almost throw it out thinking it was just another piece of mail?

It’s probably the 2026 Canadian Census and yes, ignoring it can lead to fines.

Every 5 years, households across Canada are legally required to complete the census. Most people complete it online in a few minutes using the access code mailed to their home.

Why does it matter?

The information helps decide funding for:
• Schools
• Hospitals
• Roads and transit
• Housing and community planning
• Childcare and senior services

In simple terms, census numbers help shape how cities grow and where money gets invested.

🔺There are two versions:
• A short form with basic household questions
• A longer form with additional questions about housing, education, commuting, languages and employment

Statistics Canada says all census information is protected by federal law and kept confidential.

🔺Under Canada’s Statistics Act: 
• Refusing to complete the census or knowingly providing false information can lead to fines up to $500
• Obstructing census workers can lead to fines up to $1,000

Most people still do not realize the census is not optional.

For those who work with me, this is simply how I operate.
